AUTHENTICITY

Well it’s no accident that I chose authenticity as the theme for June–which is also Pride Month. I think those of us who are straight can learn a lot from our LGBTQ siblings about authenticity. In particular, queer Christians have been faced with the profound challenge of following Jesus faithfully as part of a faith community that has been (and often still is) unwelcoming toward them.

There’s a really good chance that if we “step into the arena” in response to God’s calling, we will face criticisms from someone or another. Will we let the naysayers slow us down? Or will we “run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2)?
